We just returned from several weeks of visiting gardens in England. It was an incredible trip! I had the opportunity to see some of the great gardens in that country, I learned a lot, and met some wonderful gardeners.
I am just now sorting through the thousand images I brought back with me and, over the course of the following weeks, will be posting my impressions of gardens such as Hidcote, Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Bourton House, Snowshill, Kiftsgate, Highgrove, The Courts, as well as some surprising gems we found along the way. Love this shot Joe! You will have to tell me about your camera and the settings you like to use. Shooting gardens in broad daylight is tough...requires a lot of photo editing to get the depth of colour as you have shown here. I wish I could wander in at sunrise and sunset but as you know...that would be impossible in many. I am still playing with camera settings to get the best shots.

Thank you, Jeanne but I have to admit that, more often than not, when I'm touring gardens for enjoyment I have my Nikon set on "auto" as it was here at Great Dixter. This 1/160 shot was taken at f 6.3. I totally agree that shooting in broad daylight is tough. I also think garden photography, in general, is very challenging because of the amount of green, usually flat and non-contrasting skies, and the inevitable problems with perspective. I throw away many more garden pictures than I keep!

Well done on "auto". I do the same and have just started venturing outside of it. To me it is like putting your toe into very cold water. I always revert back to where it is safe. The end result is double the amount if not triple the amount of photos as I try out different modes. I was told by someone who takes very good shots to look into You Tube. She watches photography videos and has learned most of what she knows from there. I thought it was a great suggestion. Now to find the time :)
