The First Snowfall

The first snowfall is always enchanting although I have to say that the enchantment tends to wear off pretty quickly around here as winter's grip on these north woods gets tighter and tighter and the snow piles get higher and higher. Nevertheless, those first snowflakes are always beautiful and when they come on the heels of the fall foliage season, the scenery can be even more glorious.  I walked around the garden this morning and shot these photos.  I hope you enjoy them!

  1. The contrast of fall colors against the white snow is truly magnificent. You've captured it beautifully.

  2. Thank you, Ellen! I just came in from raking snow off of all those bending branches. It was the wet and heavy type, sticking to almost everything. I'm happy to report no major damage. I hope your garden fared well! I suspect you also received snow over your way. Good to hear from you! --Joe

  3. Gee guys, We're scheduled to get snow tomorrow BIG TIME and I'm just not seeing the beauty in all this. In fact, I'm finding it decidedly traumatizing. True = your photos are gorgeous. But you can keep the snow, thank you very much. I've still got many hundreds of bulbs to get into the BARE ground. This makes all the spooks of Halloween seem pretty tame.

  4. Your photographs are beautiful and you definitely got more snow than we did. I am nervous to see what comes down today, I haven't cut any of my gardens back yet!

  6. I know, I know... this is all beauty and the beast stuff. It was beautiful a couple of days ago. But now? Beastly! Just spent the entire day scrambling to get pots and plants in, sheep and goats moved to shelter and the heavy white stuff and wind have just now begun. This comment could represent the last use of electrical power for a few days. Hope you all fare well through the storm! And, thanks for the comments!-- Joe
