A Little Moreton-In-Marsh Diversion

photo courtesy of Jon Fox Antiques
Not long ago, I stumbled across this little shop in the town of Moreton-In-Marsh, in the Cotswolds of England.  Jon Fox, the amiable owner (in photo at left), opened his shop here in 1983 and has a wonderful collection of garden and architectural antiques. Jon was kind enough to let me snap a few photos to whet your appetite.  To learn more about Jon's shop and to take a look at some of his current inventory, you can check out his website by clicking here. And, before you ask...yes, he ships!

A corner of Jon's brightly lit and colorful shop...

...with some lovely old gardening tools.

An antique iron bench, some pots, and a few dolly tubs to boot.

A pair of carved marble figures from the 19th century.

A few English watering cans.

The don't make them like this anymore!  A wall of polished and oiled antique
gardening tools.  You won't find these at Home Depot.

More polished watering cans and a bleached tree sculpture mounted on base with light.

A Turkish terra cotta pot and a twisted and bleached vine from Thailand.

A wooden acupuncture dummy complete with relevant marks to indicate where needles
can be inserted.

  1. I'd sure like to know more about the old tools. I've never seen the likes of some of them and I can't help but wonder what they were used for. What a charming shop!

    1. Hi Fred and Red! Aren't they great! You can read the descriptions of some of these tools at www.jonfoxantiques.com. Click on "Antiques for The Garden" and then on "Garden Tools." And, thanks for your comment!

  2. Yes, well my only question is why those terra cotta thumb pots were still sitting in the sales area and not at the checkout counter. I mean, I understand why you didn't buy an airplane seat for the loincloth statue. But surely you could've fit the thumb pots in your suitcase. I have a birthday coming up (sometime)...

    1. Ha! I think I was so preoccupied with plotting how I was gonna fit one of those twisty vines in the overhead compartment that I completely lost track of time. But luckily (for you, I guess) they do ship.
